What can I do to speed up my weight loss?

BNM asked:

I have lost 12 lbs so far since Jan 2. I am doing the Biggest Loser Workout DVD every other day (110 minutes each time). And I am eating 1200 calories a day (sometimes only 1100). But now my weight loss has slowed to 1 lb per week.

You’ll need to vary your workout routine; your body learns to cope with what you’re doing to it, so try a different workout for a little bit.

Thats common. Its hardest to loose the last few pounds. You need to switch up your workouts. If your body becomes accustomed to doing the same thing over and over again, you won’t see the same results anymore. Drinking plenty of water, and eating 5 -6 small meals per day will speed up your metabolism.

losing weight takes time. you should never be in a hurry to do it. BUT – one thing that can jump start a diet is detoxing. I used nature’s secret fast and detox program. I lost about 10 pounds in a week, but gained back 5 because it was mostly water weight. It literally cleans you out and included are appetite suppressants and nutritional pills. The only thing I did differently than on the box is I could not stomach the fiber drink, so I used nature’s secret ultimate fiber. I also drank 100% natural juice to get the pills down and I did have a chocolate shredded (20oz) every day for lunch from the smoothie king. I felt great after wards. the only side effects were a caffein headache the first three days but after that, I woke up feeling sooooo good.

1lb a week is excellent. i think that exercise and not necessarily eating less, just eating healthier. if you eat less you wont have enough energy to exercise but if you just eat more of the stuff that the food pyrimid says, then over time it will pay off and you will see a healthier you and a happier you when you look in the mirror.

Consider taking weight loss pills. My mother wanted to lose weight, went to the doctor to see what she could do. She didn’t have time to work-out, so he recommended taking the pill Alli It worked amazingly. She lost 35 pounds in a month, in a healthy way. The pill gets rid of the extra fat you don’t need in your body and you poop it out. So you can go to the bathroom quite a bit in a day, that’s the downside.

Relax. It is very common for a person to loose a whole bunch of weight at first then level off. Remember, when you exercise, you’re burning fat gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat- some people even see a slight gain. Just keep exercising, drink PLENTY of water continue to eat healthy. A pound a week is better than nothing, right? Don’t give up! Good luck!

    dont eat less
it makes it worse because your body NEEDS the food. What you have to check is on WHAT you eat. Maybe look up a food pyramid on the internet and hold yourself to it.
You can do some sports too for the fun of it when you have fun then it wont be a drag to loose the weight and maybe you should exercise everyday and dont slouch down but of course you also have to rest.
    I hope this helps:)

that seems like a lot a weight for a woman to lose in that amount of time. Judging from what I read about the biggest loser diet, your daily calorie intake is to be approximately 7 times your body weight, so judging by your caloric intake, I don’t think you’re too big Unless you’re very big, in which case, you may be eating too little calories. At a certain point, your body goes into starvation mode so if you don’t eat, your body won’t burn calories. I have even heard them mention this on the biggest loser before.

Change up your routine.. When you do the same thing for a while – your body will ‘get used to it’…

Try a different work out and some different foods… You may break your plateau!

Great Job! Keep up the good work!

This is normal .. As you lose weight your body will hit plateau’s ….These plateaus will sometimes last for a couple of weeks …don’t get discouraged.
DO NOT decrease your caloric intake. Going below 1100 is unsafe. ADD an additional activity or an additional day doing your video workout. This may help you jump start your weight loss .

12 # in a little less then one month is a good weight loss..You didn’t say how much your start weight was, nor height or age. What is your weight loss goal. Some how I have a feeling you are not really overweight but just looking to lose that extra 20 # like most of us girls . If that is the case you should be able to lose that 20# ( utilizing your current plan) in about 3 mos.

I think the answer is right there in your question… you are deliberately eating less than 1200 calories a day, and your body thinks it’s going into starvation mode with the low calories and heavier workload of extra exercise. It will begin to slow it’s metabolism to conserve energy (fat) stores. It thinks it will starve to death and is desperately trying not to let that happen.
Go back to the 1200 calories, don’t dip below that. You could even add another 100 calories a day, preferrably in the form of complete protein, such as a large hardboiled egg.
Going too low doesn’t make it go faster, it actually slows you down and makes it easier to gain when you go off your diet!

sounds crazy, but it’s true, you aren’t eating ENOUGH to lose weight faster!

The liquid diet. I swear by it. And diets DO work it just that most people don’t stick to them and you have to know that diets are only to be remporary untill you can learn to watch what you eat.
So, the liquid diet: anything liquid. And it has to have been liquid when it left the store. You can’t put something in a blender and call it a liquid. Soups are ok as long as it just liquids like tomato soup. And you can’t just let ice cream melt and call that liquid. No yogurt either. But any liquid goes. And as much of it as you want.
Again: only meant to be temporary untill you can learn a better way to eat and exercise.
